TITLE: INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE TECHNICIAN (1259) ANNUAL SALARY: $26,004.00 - $36,204.00
  INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE SPECIALIST I (1260) ANNUAL SALARY: $27,768.00 - $39,036.00
  INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE SPECIALIST II (1261) ANNUAL SALARY: $31,320.00 - $44,640.00

LOCATION: Statewide, Department of Natural Resources

INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE TECHNICIAN - DEFINITION: This is technical interpretive work conducting tours and/or presenting interpretive and educational programs at state parks, historic sites, schools or other community locations.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Two or more years of experience in interpretation work, including presenting tours and educational programs; conducting interpretive hikes or walks; using audio-visual equipment and/or presenting museum gallery programs at a park, historic site or museum; researching and/or presenting information about artifacts or archeological sites; teaching science or history; or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation or a closely related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at the rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

EXAMINATION COMPONENT: Rating of Education and Experience, 100%.


INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE SPECIALIST I - DEFINITION: This is entry-level professional interpretive work in an assigned state park or historic site with special habitat management areas and/or historic structures and cultural resources.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: Two or more years of experience as an Interpretative Resource Technician with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System .

OR

Four or more years of experience in interpretation work, including presenting tours and educational programs; conducting interpretive hikes or walks; using audio-visual equipment and/or presenting museum gallery programs at a park, historic site or museum; researching and/or presenting information relating to artifacts or archaeological sites; teaching science or history; or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program; and, possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience, at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)

OR

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation or a closely related field.

EXAMINATION COMPONENT: Rating of Education and Experience, 100%.


INTERPRETIVE RESOURCE SPECIALIST II - DEFINITION: This is mid-level professional work planning and directing interpretive operations in an assigned state park or historic site with special habitat management areas and/or historic structures and cultural resources.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: One or more years of experience as an Interpretive Resource Specialist I with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Environmental, Biological or Natural Sciences, Natural Resources, Resource Management, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Parks and Outdoor Recreation or a closely related field; and,

Two or more years of experience in research, development and/or presentation of interpretive and educational programs in a park, historic site or museum; management of natural and/or cultural resources; researching and/or presenting information relating to artifacts or archaeological sites; teaching science or history; or comparable experience in a conservation or environmental program.

(Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 24 earned graduate credit hours for one year.)

(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.
