TITLE: ACCOUNTING ANALYST II (0353)
LOCATION: Cole County, Division of Youth Services, Department of Social Services (This classification may also be used Statewide by agencies in various locations).
ANNUAL SALARY: $35,952.00 - $51,156.00

DEFINITION: This is responsible professional accounting work in the maintenance, review, analysis and development of accounting systems.  An employee in this class analyzes and evaluates accounting systems, methods and procedures for the Division of Accounting.  Work involves planning and developing new or revised systems, coordinating the use of electronic data processing equipment to the accounting function and writing procedures for the efficient application of both manual and machine systems.  The employee in this class is normally assigned the more difficult special projects involving long-range planning and/or the independent analysis and development of moderately-large systems.  Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-level Accounting Analyst, who reviews completed work for the proper utilization of accounting methods.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS: One year as an Accounting Analyst I in the Division of Accounting.

OR

Successful completion of the Certified Public Accountant examination followed by at least one year of experience in public accounting.

OR

Two years of professional experience in public or private accounting; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major specialization (approximately 30 semester hours) in accounting.  Coursework must include at least one course in data processing systems and must include studies in PERT and/or CPM analysis, and the application of statistics to accounting methods.  (A Master's Degree in accounting may be substituted for one year of professional experience.)

EXAMINATION COMPONENT: Written Examination, 60%; Rating of Education and Experience, 40%.  (The knowledge areas included on the written examination are:  general private sector accounting practices; general public sector accounting practices; computer and data processing; public relations; planning and research; and interviewing.)
