ELECTRONIC GAMING DEVICE SPECIALIST

 

DEFINITION

This is professional and specialized work ensuring the integrity and accuracy of electronic gaming devices and associated system programs, including all hardware and software in an assigned geographical area of the state for the Missouri Gaming Commission

An employee in this class is responsible for inspecting, testing and verifying the operation and accuracy of electronic gaming devices, hardware and software components at casinos.  Work involves conducting on-site inspections of new, upgraded and/or existing devices, systems and associated software; reviewing incident reports which detail problems encountered at casinos; preparing technical reports; and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.  Work may also involve training Commission employees in the methods and procedures used to monitor, inspect, test and verify gaming devices and casino operations.  Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior; however, the employee is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Conducts on-site inspections of electronic gaming devices and ancillary equipment to detect hardware malfunctions.

Tests and audits the operating and financial software programs to ensure proper communication between devices and to ensure security measures are in compliance with established regulations.

Verifies operational software utilizing approved testing protocols to ensure compliance with approved specifications.

Prepares technical reports to supplement incident information reported by patrons and casino operators.

Updates database records to include compliance information, inventory of devices and other pertinent data.

Participates in establishing the operational technical standards and policies governing electronic gaming devices, systems and software used in casinos operating in the state.

Assist in training Commission employees in the methods and procedures used to monitor, inspect, test and verify the integrity of gaming devices and casino operations.

Participates in the investigation of alleged violations involving electronic gaming devices.

Attends meetings, training seminars and conferences; apprises Commission personnel of electronic gaming device issues and new technology.

Travels to assigned locations throughout the state to fulfill requirements of the position.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of Missouri statutes, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to gaming devices.

Working knowledge of electronics and computer technology.

Working knowledge of gaming operating systems and financial and accounting software programs.

Some knowledge of electronic gaming device technology, testing and verification procedures and computer networking.

Ability to meet precise standards, conform to strict tolerances and be detail oriented.

Ability to identify, isolate and resolve problems.

Ability to independently plan, organize and carry out assignments.

Ability to understand and apply statistical analysis techniques to electronic gaming operations.

Ability to prepare technical documents and reports.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to travel extensively to complete assigned duties with periods of overnight lodging required.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, casino staff, and the general public.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

(The following entrance requirements are used to admit or reject applicants for merit system examinations, or may be used to evaluate applicants for employment in positions not requiring selection from merit system registers. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for deficiencies in experience or education.)

Five years of experience in the gaming industry or a casino environment involving electronic gaming device operation, maintenance and/or regulation.

OR

Three years of experience in computer networking, system integration or software communication; and two years (at least 60 semester hours) of education from an accredited college or university, with twelve (12) or more semester hours in electronics.  (Additional qualifying education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated experience.  Experience in electronics involving the installation or maintenance of electronic circuitry may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated education.)

OR

One year of experience in electronics involving the installation or maintenance of electronic circuitry; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major specialization (at least 24 semester hours) in computer science, computer information systems or closely related areas.  (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated education for a maximum of two years.  Graduate work in electronics or closely related areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated experience.)
