VIDEO PRODUCTION SPECIALIST IDEFINITIONThis is entry-level professional and technical work in video production for a state agency. An employee in this class is responsible for producing videos for training, informational or motivational purposes. Work involves developing and coordinating video productions including conferring with supervisor regarding subject matter, composing scripts, filming raw footage, editing, etc. Work may also involve photography and video/audio dubbing, reproduction or distribution. General supervision is received from a designated superior; however, the employee is expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilites. Any one position may not involve all of the specified duties or knowledges, skills and abilities, nor are the listed examples exhaustive.EXAMPLES OF WORKProduces videos for training, informational or motivational purposes. Confers with supervisor and conducts research regarding subject matter; composes scripts and prepares production schedules for assigned projects. Designs sets, obtains props, identifies filming locations and assists in the selection of talent used in video productions. Films raw footage at agency or public events and remote locations; operates video, audio, lighting and other related equipment. Videotapes conferences, lectures, demonstrations, clinical sessions or other events. Edits raw footage; dubs graphics, captions, background music, special effects, etc. Schedules and sets up video/audio equipment for classrooms or other locations; programs and operates satellite receiver for conferences. Performs or oversees the maintenance of video/audio equipment; researches, evaluates and recommends equipment purchases. Photographs events, scenes and people for displays, publications, training sessions or other agency functions. Reproduces and distributes copies of finished productions. Performs other related work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of the methods and techniques used in video production and editing. Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of video/audio equipment. Working knowledge of the methods and techniques of photography and film processing. Ability to set up, operate and maintain a variety of video, audio, lighting and other related equipment. Ability to compose scripts based on research of subject matter. Ability to prepare and carry out production schedules for assigned projects. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and co-workers. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS(The following entrance requirements are used to admit or reject applicants for merit system examinations, or may be used to evaluate applicants for employment in positions not requiring selection from merit system registers. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for deficiencies in experience or education.)Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in cinematography and video production, radio and television production, mass communications or closely related areas.
