VOCATIONAL ENTERPRISES REPRESENTATIVEDEFINITIONThis is responsible public contact work involving the sale of vocational enterprises products and services to state agencies, tax-supported agencies, or political subdivisions of the State of Missouri. An employee in this class is responsible for negotiating agreements for the sale of vocational enterprises products and services, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customer agencies and providing information regarding products and services. The employee makes regular and special visits to customers, studies their programs, and uses this information to expedite production. The employee is subject to general supervision by the Vocational Enterprises Administrator or other designated administrative superior. Any one position may not involve all of the specified duties or knowledges, skills and abilities, nor are the listed examples exhaustive.EXAMPLES OF WORKMakes scheduled visits to state agencies, tax-supported agencies, or political subdivisions throughout the state and negotiates sale of vocational enterprises products or services. Visits prospective clients in an effort to establish new accounts. Discusses with the customer items available for sale, factory work loads, and delivery schedules. Assembles information on customers' programs and determines existing demand for new products. Investigates customer complaints and makes necessary adjustments. Assembles and reports information on long-range customer plans and programs to enable effective production planning. Participates in workshops to show and demonstrate products and services to customers and potential customers. Consults with management of the Vocational Enterprises Program to coordinate production and customer demand. Coordinates the assembly of a catalogue of vocational enterprises products and the updating of the catalogue and price list of products. Reviews purchase orders to insure that prices are accurate and all other necessary information is included. Performs other related work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESConsiderable knowledge of Missouri vocational enterprises products and services, materials and policies concerning product sales, delivery and manufacturing processes and materials. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of sales techniques. Ability to make effective sales presentations to customers. Ability to establish and maintain effective contacts with customers. Ability to arrange adjustments of customer complaints with tact and diplomacy. Ability to keep records of customer contacts documenting customers' present and future needs for vocational enterprises products and services. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with factory and service managers, customers and the general public. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS(The following entrance requirements are used to admit or reject applicants for merit system examinations, or may be used to evaluate applicants for employment in positions not requiring selection from merit system registers. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for deficiencies in experience or education.)Four years of employment in commercial sales (other than retail sales work), small business management, or comparable business work involving extensive public contacts. (College education with specialization in business, marketing or closely related areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated experience.) NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTPossession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license at time of appointment, if required for the assignment involved.
