VOCATIONAL ENTERPRISES MARKETING COORDINATOR

 

DEFINITION

This is administrative and supervisory work in directing the marketing and sales program of the Vocational Enterprises Program in the Department of Corrections.

The employee in this class is responsible for the direction of the marketing and sales activities of the Vocational Enterprises Program, including supervision of sales and support staff and direct responsibility for the marketing effort. Work includes the development and maintenance of annual reports, product catalogs, sales brochures, product shows and other promotional activities. Work involves development of market strategies, establishment of markets for products made by inmates in the Vocational Enterprises Program and participation in market studies for new products and vocational enterprise related opportunities. General supervision is received from an administrative superior; however, the employee is expected to exercise considerable independence and initiative in the execution of assigned responsibilities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Directs market and sales activities, including supervision of sales and support staff.

Directs the production and maintenance of promotional materials, sales brochures, catalog updates and product shows.

Reviews market analyses and participates in the research and development of new products and markets.

Analyzes sales and promotional efforts to determine cost effectiveness of marketing strategies.

Develops and maintains a retail outlet for enterprises products.

Develops annual forecast of sales for enterprises products and services; prepares reports pertaining to sales volume, marketing efforts and potential opportunities.

Assists in the resolution of customer conflict, as necessary.

Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of Missouri vocational enterprises products, services, materials and policies concerning product sales and delivery.

Considerable knowledge of the practices of marketing and salesmanship.

Ability to conduct and evaluate market surveys.

Ability to develop and implement effective marketing strategies.

Ability to design and layout promotional brochures and materials.

Ability to set-up and host product shows.

Ability to direct, supervise and evaluate the work of subordinate sales and support staff.

Ability to resolve customer complaints.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with factory and service managers, customers, sales and support personnel, and the general public.

Ability prepare and maintain records and reports of current products and services and potential need for additional or new vocational enterprises products.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

(The following entrance requirements are used to admit or reject applicants for merit system examinations, or may be used to evaluate applicants for employment in positions not requiring selection from merit system registers. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for deficiencies in experience or education.)

Three years of experience in commercial sales (other than retail or route sales work), small business management, marketing or comparable business work involving extensive public contacts, including one year which involved responsibility for the marketing of products or services; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in business administration, marketing or closely related areas.

OR

One year as a Vocational Enterprises Sales Manager or two years as a Vocational Enterprises Representative under the Missouri Merit System.
