PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER III

DEFINITION

This is senior-level skilled and semi-skilled work involving the construction and maintenance of structures, equipment, and grounds in a state park or historic site.

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Builds and/or oversees the building of cabins, group or small picnic shelters, picnic tables, and/or vault latrines; performs or oversees major repairs or renovations of dining halls, facility residences, office buildings, and other structures.

Performs or oversees repairs and/or renovations to historic structures using appropriate construction materials, techniques, and tools.

Constructs foundations and pours concrete sidewalks, curbing, and steps; performs skilled and semi-skilled carpentry work on buildings; reconstructs and paints buildings; repairs and maintains equipment.

Installs, maintains, and repairs toilets, sinks, showers, drinking fountains, water heaters and water lines; installs and repairs electrical circuits in buildings.

Serves as a lead worker overseeing semi-skilled/skilled workers and/or performing construction/renovation, cleaning, and maintenance of park grounds and facilities.

Monitors and maintains complex water and wastewater systems.

Inspects facility's structures and equipment for safety and risk factors.

Functions as facility manager in their absence as needed.

Greets the public and provides information regarding park rules, regulations, available resources, and the facility's history.

Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

Comprehensive knowledge of general construction and repair methods.

Comprehensive knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in historic site repairs or renovations.

Skill in the proper utilization and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.

Skill in the operation, cleaning, care, and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment.

Ability to perform environmental and/or risk management inspections.

Ability to provide information to the public regarding available resources and to deal courteously, but firmly, in explaining and enforcing park rules and regulations.

Ability to lead semi-skilled and/or unskilled workers.

Ability to perform semi-skilled and skilled work in at least two of the mechanical, electrical, and building trades.

Ability to understand and carry out instructions independently.

Ability to perform manual work requiring physical exertion.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.)

Two or more years of experience as a Park Maintenance Worker II with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.

OR

Three or more years of semi-skilled experience in the building (carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, etc.), electrical, plumbing, or mechanical (heating and cooling, refrigeration, welding, etc.) trades, or comparable farm operation work; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate; and possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

OR

Four or more years of semi-skilled experience in the building (carpentry, painting, masonry, roofing, drywall, etc.), electrical, plumbing, or mechanical (heating and cooling, refrigeration, welding, etc.) trades, or comparable farm operation work; and completion of the eighth grade; and possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
