An employee in this class performs a variety of engineering duties associated with the planning, location, design, construction, maintenance and operation of dams, water control structures or other civil engineering projects, including materials testing and research. Work involves reviewing plans and specifications for dams and reservoirs and also conducting on-site inspections of such water control structures in order to determine if hazardous conditions exist. Only general supervision is received from the Chief Engineer (Dam Safety); consequently, considerable independent judgement is exercised by the employee. Any one position may not involve all of the specified duties or knowledges, skills and abilities, nor are the listed examples exhaustive.EXAMPLES OF WORKParticipates in the engineering review of registration permits for dams.
