STORES CLERKDEFINITIONThis is routine manual and clerical work in receiving, handling, recording, storing, retail selling and the shipping of stores items such as office supplies, foodstuffs, medical supplies or related items. Work includes marking, handling and transporting of supplies in a warehouse or storeroom; filling requisitions; storing and issuing clothing, linens, and other supplies; and/or transacting retail sales in a facility canteen or novelty stand. This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills or abilities associated with this classification. EXAMPLES OF WORKTransacts retail sales in a facility canteen or novelty stand. Receives, unpacks and stores goods or supplies under proper conditions in storage bins and on shelves. Issues supplies from a storeroom on approved requisitions for facility or agency use. Assembles, packs and transports or arranges for transporting goods or materials. Operates specialized equipment such as forklifts, motorized or hydraulic jacks, etc. Takes or assists in taking physical inventory of maintained stock as required. Keeps simple receiving, requisition and sales records. Makes minor decisions on work methods under the supervision of an administrative superior. Performs other related work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)Introductory knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures. Introductory knowledge of various kinds and grades of foodstuffs; housekeeping, medical, and office supplies; clothing; maintenance equipment; and other supplies and equipment. Introductory knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods. Ability to properly pack a variety of goods for shipment. Ability to understand and follow simple directions. Ability to keep simple inventory and stores records. Ability to lift and move heavy objects. Ability to use forklifts, motorized or hydraulic jacks, or related equipment. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.) Possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate. (One year of work experience will substitute for the first two years of high school; and one year of work experience involving general clerical, record keeping, or keeping of stores will substitute for the last two years of high school.)
