INFORMATION SUPPORT COORDINATOR

DEFINITION

This is technical work facilitating the use of end-terminals and/or personal computers used as end-terminals in a state agency.

This description may not include all of the duties, knowledge, skills, or abilities associated with this classification.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

Facilitates the use of end-terminals and/or personal computers used as end-terminals with statewide responsibility in a central office or regional responsibility in an outlying field office.

Conducts on-site training in routine terminal/personal computer use and agency software applications and office automation systems; presents basic orientation to new users and provides training to experienced users as system changes occur.

Responds to inquiries from system users; identifies problem source (hardware, software, or operator error) and resolves basic problems; refers complex problems to supervisor or other designated contacts.

Serves as liaison between terminal/personal computer users and programming staff to relay system needs and resolve technical problems to meet agency expectations within system limitations.

Assists in authorizing access to various databases to meet individual user needs without compromising system security.

Installs hardware, software, and relocates equipment.

Reviews new software applications prior to full implementation to determine ease of use and identify potential problems.

Develops routine query programs to generate requested reports or to assist system users in generating reports.

Exercises considerable independence; receives general administrative direction.

Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

Intermediate knowledge of terminal/personal computer operating systems and software applications.

Intermediate knowledge of the operation, care, and adjustment of computer peripheral equipment.

Intermediate knowledge of hardware and software installation.

Introductory knowledge of agency programs related to information collection, management, and reporting.

Introductory knowledge of the general operating principles and capabilities of electronic data processing equipment.

Ability to train professional and clerical staff in routine systems use.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, technical experts, and other employees.

Ability to resolve basic hardware and software problems and make minor adjustments to equipment.

Ability to travel statewide or throughout an assigned region on a regular basis.

Ability to develop routine simple query programs to retrieve information from agency databases.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

(The following requirements will determine merit system eligibility, experience and education ratings, and may be used to evaluate applicants for Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System positions not requiring selection from merit registers. When practical and possible, the Division of Personnel will accept substitution of experience and education on a year-for-year basis.)

Four or more years of office or related clerical experience, including two or more years of experience above the entry level with primary responsibility for entering/editing information into, and retrieving information from, a networked application and office automation system; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.)
