Recent data demonstrate a marked slowdown in the national economy, resulting from the struggles of the residential construction sector. Despite this, overall employment in the state continues to expand at a moderate pace due to Missouri’s improved entrepreneurial climate. Consumers continue to spend, but recent data indicate rising energy prices are taking their toll. The outlook for the nation and the state is a return to moderate growth.
