Governor's Council Disability Sponsors Annual Poster and Journalism ContestsJEFFERSON CITY - The Governor's Council on Disability announces "See the Ability" to be the theme for the 2007-2008 Missouri Poster and Journalism Contests. Students are requested to submit artwork and essays that focus on the abilities that people with disabilities have rather than the disabilities. The focal point is to “see” the contribution that people with disabilities bring to their schools, employment and their communities as active participants. The Missouri Poster and Journalism contest is a 30-year-old GCD program and continues to award excellence in art and journalism. Its purpose is to promote disability awareness among Missouri's youth. The contests are open to two different grade categories: grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. All contest entrants must attend a Missouri school. The overall winner of the contests will be presented with a US savings bond at the Power Up Conference at Tan Tar A, April 22, 2008. The winners in each grade categories will be receiving their savings bond awards at the local school districts. Additional prize drawings will be distributed, such as tickets to Six Flags, Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City and Cardinal and Royals baseball games. Please contact Donna Borgmeyer at the Governor's Council on Disability at donna.bormeyer@oa.mo.gov or 800-877-8249 to distribute a contest flyer at your school or community. For more information, please visit out website at www.gcd.oa.mo.gov and click on Poster and Journalism Contest.
