Commissioner: Details of Nixon's Political Use of State Car InsufficientState Received Only One Document and Cover Letter From Nixon About Use of State Car for His CampaignJefferson City - Commissioner of Administration Mike Keathley said today that the single document and cover letter provided by Attorney General Jay Nixon's campaign about Nixon's use of his taxpayer-funded state car for his campaign is inadequate. Keathley has again written Nixon requesting the appropriate and standard information detailing how he used his state car for his campaign. "Unfortunately, the three pages of materials provided fall well short of what is necessary," Commissioner Keathley wrote in a letter to Nixon. "My office is eager to see the documentation necessary to ensure that Missouri's taxpayers are being fully reimbursed and to permit us to process and credit your remittance of $47,021.91 for non-state use of state resources." The commissioner has repeatedly requested dates and mileage amounts for which the state will be reimbursed and background information from which to determine whether the state is being fully reimbursed. At a minimum, Commissioner Keathley notes mileage logs and supporting documents such as receipts should be available and produced promptly especially for the months where Nixon estimated his mileage use. Today's letter is the fourth such letter the Office of Administration has sent in an effort to ensure that the check Nixon provided to reimburse the state for years of unauthorized political use of taxpayer resources is accurate and to ensure proper accounting procedures were followed.
