Commissioner Again Seeks Documents for Nixon's Use of State Car for Political CampaignNixon Has Ignored Requests for InformationJefferson City - Commissioner Mike Keathley today questioned why after several weeks Attorney General Jay Nixon has failed to provide necessary documents detailing how he used state cars and employees funded by taxpayers for his political campaign. In a letter to Attorney General Jay Nixon and his campaign manager, Keathley again requested information needed to reconcile a $47,021.91 payment that purports to reimburse taxpayers for the use of state resources for his campaign. "Previous letters set out in detail why this information is necessary to determine whether the reimbursement sent by the Nixon campaign accurately reflects the value of state property and employees used for non-state activities," Keathley wrote. "What I have requested is nothing different than what would be expected of anyone submitting money or a reimbursement request to the state. Indeed, it is no more complicated than the expense reports that state employees routinely file accurately and on time. Given this, along with the fact that you made no objection to the information sought, I trust that you agree with me that the requested information should be provided." The commissioner points out that previous letters requesting information have to date been ignored and asks Nixon to provide a response by December. Commissioner Keathley sent the letter to ensure that the check Nixon provided to reimburse the state for years of unauthorized political use of taxpayer resources is accurate and to ensure proper accounting procedures were followed.
