Governor’s Council on Disability Sponsors Annual Poster and Journalism ContestsJefferson City - The Governor’s Council on Disability has announced “Inclusion Leads to Opportunity” as the theme for the 2005-2006 Missouri Poster and Journalism Contests. The council is asking students in grades 7 through 12 to think about the inclusion of people with disabilities in their community and in their school activities; to think how inclusion leads to opportunities for both those with and without disabilities. Students are asked to submit an essay or poster incorporating the theme into their work. The purpose of the contests is to reward excellence in art and journalism while increasing disability awareness among Missouri’s youth. All essays must be three pages or less. The council asks that the essays be typed and doubled spaced on white 8½” x 11” paper. Paintings, drawings, photography, collages or any other two-dimensional medium or combination can be used to create the posters. Posters must be submitted on 12”x16” sheet of illustration board. The deadline for submitting entries is Feb. 1, 2006. Entries should be mailed or shipped to the following addresses: Mail: Donna Borgmeyer Shipped: Donna Borgmeyer US savings bonds will be awarded in both the poster and journalism contests for the top three entries. Additional prize drawings will be held for those not receiving top honors.
