Blunt Proclaims Cyber
Security Awareness Month

Jefferson City - Gov. Matt Blunt announced that the month of October 2005 is Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Computers and the Internet are increasingly becoming part of our daily lives.  Today many Missourians use a computer to stay in contact with friends and family, for research, conducting business and staying current on the latest news.  Individuals, educational institutions and business need to be mindful of the dangers of the Internet.  Internet users are increasingly finding themselves under attack from wicked viruses and loss of privacy due to spyware and adware.

“I am pleased to sign a proclamation declaring October 2005 Cyber Security Awareness Month.  It is important that all of us keep in mind the dangers that exist in the Internet age,” Blunt said.  “Missourians need to be aware of the risks associated with the Internet in order to protect themselves from Internet predators.”

The Information Technology Division of the Office of Administration will be handing out informative packets to schools and state and local government agencies with tips on how they can better protect their computer systems.  For more information on this effort, visit www.mo.gov and click on October is Cyber Security Awareness Month for more information.
