OA Praises Blunt for Enhancing State Government Efficiency

Jefferson City - Office of Administration (OA) Commissioner Michael Keathley praised Gov. Matt Blunt for signing Senate Bill 870 transferring responsibility for payments from OA to state agencies that dealt with the respective recipients.

"This law Gov. Blunt signed allows the state to operate more efficiently and make better use of taxpayer dollars by simply applying common sense," Keathley said. "This is the latest example of the governor's commitment and successful efforts to improve state government."

Senate Bill 870, sponsored by Sen. Rob Mayer, makes several adjustments to help eliminate waste and improve efficiency. It requires that sheriffs file a claim for services provided to certain offenders with the director of the Department of Corrections instead of OA. The bill states the State Council on the Arts will now be responsible for grants to public television stations. The legislation also moves responsibility for reviewing and receiving documents pertaining to incarceration of prisoners as well as receiving certain documentation regarding criminal court costs and fees to the Department of Corrections.

These transfers were also included in the recommendations the Missouri State Government Review Commission made to the governor last year.
