Investigators Meet With Nixon's Office Over Possible Mishandling of $630,000
Extend Deadline for Production of Key Documents
JEFFERSON CITY - Officials from Attorney General Jay Nixon's office on Wednesday met with investigators who are examining the possible misappropriation of $629,987 by the Attorney General's office. Office of Administration Commissioner Larry Schepker, who is leading the investigation, has extended the deadline to next Tuesday for Nixon's office to provide all of the information he has requested.
"I appreciate the Attorney General's request to discuss the investigation," Mr. Schepker wrote in a letter to Nixon's Chief of Staff John Watson. "We both agreed that we are interested in an expedited conclusion of this investigation being conducted in response to a request to me from Representative Allen Icet, in his capacity as Chairman of the House Budget Committee. However, I will not refrain from a complete and thorough investigation."
The investigation into Nixon's office was requested by House Budget Chairman Icet. Rep. Icet is concerned that Nixon's office may have mishandled $629,987 in proceeds from a multi-state settlement with Caremark, a prescription benefits manager, by spending the money without the approval of the General Assembly.
Mr. Schepker extended the deadline for Nixon to provide a complete response to his request for information to no later than 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
