Blunt Nominates Rod Chapel to Administrative Hearing Commission

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today nominated Rod Chapel to a six- year term on the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission.

Rod has demonstrated his commitment to public service and has the proven experience that will be essential to his role on the Administrative Hearing Commission," Blunt said. "I am pleased he has agreed to continue his service to the people of our state in this new role."

Mr. Chapel, 37 of Jefferson City, is the director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.  Prior to his role as the head of the state agency Mr. Chapel worked as the Legal Services Division Director and general counsel for the Department of Revenue. Mr. Chapel previously served as an associate in the Sly James Law Firm. Mr. Chapel holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Oklahoma State University, a juris doctorate from Tulane Law School and a master of laws in taxation from Washington University School of Law.

Mr. Chapel has represented both business and individual litigants in cases relating to breach of contract, employment discrimination and personal injury in both state and federal courts.

The Administrative Hearing Commission is a neutral, independent, administrative tribunal that decides disputes involving state agencies and another party, usually a private person or corporation. The commission typically decides cases after a trial type hearing, listening to evidence and arguments from the state and the other party. Any party, including the state agency, may seek review of the commission’s decision from the judicial branch.

Mr. Chapel will replace Terry Jarrett. His nomination is subject to Senate confirmation for a term ending September 12, 2013.
